October 2018
Dinner and Intern Talks | Thursday, Oct. 4 | 6 - 7 pm | Ghausi 3102B
AWWA members shared stories and experiences from previous internships to give members the chance to learn about the wide variety of fields and career paths available. We talked about members' experiences with the LA County Sanitation District, SF Public Works, and more!
Augmented Reality Sandbox Training | Tuesday, Oct. 9 | 9 - 10 am | Ghausi 1001
A free training by Jeanette Miller on how to assemble and use the Augmented Reality (AR) Sandbox! This unique tool is a 3-D interactive display that simulates how water moves with changing topography. To learn more about the Sandbox, visit here.
Imagine a Day Without Water | Wednesday, Oct. 10
Water professionals and other communities brought extra attention to the value of water on this occasion. This was the fourth year that the Value Water Campaign, which the AWWA is a founding member, celebrated this day. This was an opportunity to remind the public the importance of water in our lives.
Atmospheric Observation Workshop | Saturday, Oct. 20 | 10 am - 2 pm | Ghausi 1001
Learn more about atmospheric observation from Water Resources PhD student Aaron Alexander. Understanding how to properly observe and predict weather patterns is an essential skill for civil and environmental engineers, as incorporation of environmental stresses is integral to engineering design. This workshop will introduce basic geophysical and atmospheric concepts of weather pattern prediction, as well as the various tools available for designing observation regimes. Aaron Alexander will mix in-depth lecture with interactive group activities (with a mini field trip to see meteorological station too!) to provide a framework for engineers to better incorporate weather prediction into their everyday work. The day will conclude with a final project in which groups of students will use weather data from the infamous Oroville Dam failure to design a weather observation scheme to better understand the event and draw parallels to apply similar predictive schemes in the future. Pizza will be provided!

City of Sacramento Meter Workshop and Hot Tapping | Friday, May 2019
AWWA members went on a tour at the City of Sacramento Water Meter Facility. As part of the tour, AWWA members got to watch "The Lady Tappers" tap a pipe and assemble a water meter. The tourgoers were then given the opportunity to tap a pipe on their own.
